The Lincoln U14 Boys coached by David Ortiz and Mike Kumar, secured the Classic Gold SuperLiga championship last night (Wednesday June 12th) in a tough encounter vs the number 1 ranked, and previously unbeaten Coventry, at the wonderful Burrillville-Gloucester complex.
If the first half was tight and cagey then the second was the total opposite, with Lincoln pinning Coventry in their half for the duration. The Coventry GK was placed under constant pressure but was equal to everything thrown his way, making save after save. Half way through the half Lincoln were awarded a free kick, some 30yards from goal up stepped Ceaser to fire in the kick and after a ricochet or two the ball nestled in to the bottom corner and the crowd went wild!
Lincoln continued to push for a second right until the final whistle but could not manage to beat the in-form Coventry GK.
A great final, and a well deserved win. Congratulations boys!
The Lincoln Blue Angels coached by Chris Clarke went undefeated over 4 games at the Cape Cod Challenge held in Sandwich, MA.
The girls, a mixture of the Superliga U10 Gold team and the MAPLE U10 team, were in fine form throughout the weekend recording 3 shutouts thanks the to goalkeeping ability of Amy Stevens and Madison Danforth.
Riley Specht found her shooting boots again netting 3 goals over the weekend as did the ever impressive Sadie Oliver.
Coach Chris was delighted with the way the weekend turned out, “I was a little unsure what to expect this weekend. The girl’s practiced together once before the weekend and I think it shows how strong the LYSA program is when you can merge two teams together, compete at the premier level, and go undefeated.”
